Numbers exchanged, the girls go back to their 'and then all my clothes fell off' routines and I persuade Reed and Izzy to make a move. Once outside it's a relief to see fully-clothed people again.

As we step out on to the pavement a limo glides up and stops directly in front of us. This is typically one of those moments where you joke, 'That'll be my ride!' Only this time it's for real. The driver tips his hat at Reed as he opens the door and invites us to get inside.

'You're sweet, Reed, but we're only around the corner, we could easily get a cab,' simpers Izzy.

'I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight if I didn't see you safely home,' he replies, helping her in. 'There are a lot of crazy people in this town.'

'But only a few of them have limos,' I think to myself as I slide along the supple leather. It appears to be even longer on the inside and I end up so far from Izzy and Reed they look like dolls from where I'm sitting. Giving them a silly wave, I take in the luxury mahogany interior, desperate to tinker with the cut glass decanters and rattle the ice bucket. If Reed wasn't here we'd no doubt be sticking our heads through the sunroof screaming, but I'm following Izzy's nonchalant lead and stretch my arm along the smoked glass window ledge. Behind me, I sense the partition between us and the chauffeur sliding down.

'Yes, Mr Mahoney?' says the driver.

'Oh, Jamie, I think you must have accidentally pressed the call button,' Reed surmises. 'Just reach behind you and press it again, would you?'

'Oh, sorry!' I say, finding myself confronted with an array of knobs and switches. 'Um, is this it?'

We're suddenly deafened by Mariah Carey.

'Sorry!'

I try again. This time a panel rotates to reveal an elaborate computer system.

'It's on the left,' says Reed patiently.

My finger hovers nervously, if I press the wrong one the limo will probably turn into a Batmobile or I'll nuke some Eastern Bloc country. I close my eyes and press. The partition slides back into place. Phew. I sit on my hands to avoid further incident.

'Even I get confused.' Reed smiles. 'So, Jamie, Izzy says you're starting a new job next week. Sales, isn't it?'

Knowing Izzy, she's probably told him I'm chief buyer at Tiffany's so I settle for a simple, 'Yes, that's right' and shift the focus back to him with an innocuous, 'Are you based in Las Vegas?'

'No, but a lot of my work is here and I'm actually looking to buy a place at the moment. It's not a bad commute from Denver but I thought if I had my own pad here with a full wardrobe I could travel with just my briefcase!'

'It's like he's got a place in Barbados with a wardrobe full of beach clothes!' Izzy adds, trying to sound like the idea merely tickles her when I know inside she's doing a celebratory 'He's rich!' pogo.
